We’ve put together a special FAQ for the Centennial Kickoff Picnic – a special event that precedes the 2nd Annual Kenny Washington Memorial Game. Hopefully these questions and answers will provide you with more than enough information about the event. If not, you may contact us by phone or e-mail (see below).
What is the Centennial Kickoff Picnic?
The picnic is the first official celebration of Lincoln High School’s 100 year Centennial celebration. We hope to bring together the largest gathering of Lincoln Alumni ever assembled on the school grounds. For all Tiger alumni it will be a chance to return to the school with family members for a nostalgic visit and an opportunity to reunite with old classmates.
Who is sponsoring the picnic?
The picnic is entirely sponsored by the Kenny Washington Stadium Foundation – a non-profit organization dedicated to rebuilding the Lincoln High School sports complex. The Foundation is not affiliated with the Lincoln High School Alumni Association. (You can learn more about our plans by visiting other parts of our web site.)
How much does it cost?
Entry to the picnic is free of charge, but we will ask you to sign-in when your enter the front gates. Please do your best to show your Tiger pride once again by wearing your Orange & Black at the picnic and game!
What time does the picnic start?
The front gates will open promptly at 12:00noon.
What time does the picnic end?
The picnic officially ends at 3:00pm. This gives everyone an hour before kickoff to make it up to the field (using the school’s bridge above Lincoln Park Avenue) for the 2nd Annual Kenny Washington Memorial Game. Kickoff is at 4:00pm.
What is the History Walk?
The Foundation – working in conjunction with the folks at Lincoln Heights Remembered on Facebook – have put together an amazing series of informational panels on our school’s early history. These will be placed strategically around the front of the school campus for you to view. A simple map will be available for a self-guided tour.
What other activities are planned during the picnic?
Besides our self-guided history walk, we’ll also have a chance to hear the Tiger Marching Band at 2:40pm as they play several traditional Lincoln selections for picnic guests including our alma mater.
Do I need to bring food?
You can, but we’ll have several food booths with reasonably priced picnic-friendly food in a centrally located area. Also, current LHS students will have a variety of treats to sell as fundraisers.
Do I need to bring drinks?
We ask that you do not bring drinks, but rather support current Lincoln athletes, cheerleaders, band members and other school organizations who will be selling drinks at the picnic (and at the game).
Do I need to bring a blanket?
You can! Or you can sit on the grass and of course there are benches everywhere.
Is this a family-friendly event?
Absolutely! This is a great opportunity to show your family the beautiful Lincoln High campus.
How can I help?
We just ask that you please support the various booths sponsored by Lincoln High School varsity sports teams and campus organizations. As you probably know, school budgets are at an all time low and our current Tigers struggle to pay for uniforms and equipment.
Can I volunteer for the event?
We’d love for you to get involved. Please send us your name and contact information to our Foundation info e-mail address: info@KWSFoundation.org – we’ll get back to you within a day! You can also call us at (323)379-KWSF and leave a message.
Will there be Lincoln gear to buy?
Yes! The LHS Student Store will be selling official Lincoln High School merchandise from a table near the front gates (you can also buy game tickets there!). Additionally, the Foundation will have game pins and patches available for purchase too!
What happens at 3:00pm?
The picnic will officially close at 3:00pm and we ask that you begin to make your way up to the field for the 2nd Annual Kenny Washington Memorial Game. Kickoff is at 4:00pm with a special halftime presentation!
Can I buy game tickets at the picnic?
Yes you can. If you buy your tickets at the picnic, there will be a special entry gate for all pre-paid ticket holders on the north side of the gym (just follow the signs!). You can also purchase tickets at the door – but why wait in line? Prices for game tickets are $7.00 with all profits going to the school.
Is this the only event the Foundation will have for the school’s centennial?
We have a few surprises planned for the centennial year, so visit us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/kwsfoundation) regularly. While you’re there, make sure you “friend” us to stay informed of our upcoming events announcements. And don’t forget to “bookmark” our site too!
